Google expands AI-powered ads to India and nine other countries, while launching multi-turn ads in the U.S.

Google is expanding its AI-powered advertising to more countries, allowing a broader range of users who utilize its AI search features to see sponsored search results. The company is also introducing a new ad format in the United States, which enables sponsored content to appear as users engage in conversations and ask follow-up questions. These changes will affect how advertisements are displayed alongside AI-generated answers, providing advertisers with more opportunities to reach users as they explore topics, compare products, and search for services via Google Search.

Details on the Expansion of Google’s AI-Powered Ads
In a blog post, Google announced that its AI-powered ads will expand to India, Australia, Canada, Kenya, Malaysia, New Zealand, Nigeria, Pakistan, the Philippines, and Singapore. The company also plans to roll out this feature in Brazil, Mexico, and the United Kingdom by the fourth quarter of 2026.

The Mountain View-based tech giant is also rolling out various advertising formats in the U.S., allowing for the display of sponsored ads while users engage in AI-powered conversations and ask follow-up questions. The company noted that queries made within this AI mode are, on average, three times longer than those in traditional searches.

Advertisements within AI mode and AI Overviews are labeled as “Sponsored” and are visually distinct from organic search results. Google employs both direct query matching and contextual matching, taking into account both the user’s search query and the AI-generated response. For example, a user searching for “how to clean a green swimming pool” might see advertisements for pool cleaners or algaecides.

Advertisers can leverage their existing Search, Shopping, and Performance Max campaigns without needing to set up new campaigns or increase their budgets. Google supports text ads and Shopping ads, and is currently testing local inventory ads and vehicle ads. Advertisers can track ad performance through their existing Google Ads reports; the billing model remains the same as that for standard Search ads, with no additional costs.

Advertisements appearing above and below AI Overviews are available in over 200 countries and regions. Ads within AI Overviews and AI mode are available in the United States, Australia, Canada, India, Kenya, Malaysia, New Zealand, Nigeria, the Philippines, and Singapore. In Indonesia, only ads within AI Overviews are supported, while in Pakistan, currently only text ads are supported.

Google added that paid advertisements do not influence the organic search results generated by AI models or AI Overviews.
